5 Best Healthiest Cooking Oils

The healthiest way to eat is home cooking oils, because you know exactly how it’s prepared and what is going in it.  For this reason, Samir Becic and his Health Fitness Revolution team has put together a list of the healthiest cooking oil to use.

Healthy fats allow the body to absorb fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K), antioxidants (lycopene and beta-carotene) and offer a major fuel source for energy expenditure. the hearts, brains and nerve cells also rely on healthy cooking oils fats to function properly. One type of fat that the body DOES NOT need, is trans-fats, which are found in partially hydrogenated cooking oils and cause bad cholesterol.

Walnut oil

Walnut oil is one of the world's great secret ingredients once you know how to use it. Try to fry with it, and you'll be disappointed. But put it in salad dressing, banana bread, or brush it on home-baked oven fries, and you'll have everyone asking you for the recipe. When it comes to healthy oil, the walnut is king of the nut aisle. It's high in antioxidants and phytonutrients and comparatively low in saturated fat.

Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed oil (also known as linseed oil) is made by cold-pressing flaxseeds, a blue-flowered plant that is grown on prairies in western Canada and northern U.S. This oil is a natural source of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids, but because it has a low smoke point (225°F), it's best to use on cold dishes like in dressings, dips, smoothies, etc. It has quite a short shelf life, and even if it's kept refrigerated, it only lasts a few weeks.

Canola Oil

I prefer to avoid canola oil. It is extracted from rapeseed, but they renamed and rebranded it to make is sound more palatable to consumers. There’s no such thing as a canola plant.

Peanut Oil

Also known as groundnut oil, peanut oil is a highly refined oil and is slightly higher in saturated fats compared to other cooking oils. It has a high smoke point and is suitable for deep frying. People with peanut allergy should avoid it completely.

Macadamia Oil

It’s Australia’s healthy nut, and contains a higher percentage of monounsaturated fats than most other natural cooking oils, including olive oil. It's full off nutty flavour and quite distinct if you’ve never tried it before.
